Opening Bid
This is the group of rules named opening the bidding.

You saw some examples of rules on the page sets of rules. One of those rules was:

If you have a good hand with a biddable suit, bid 1 of best suit

As you can see, that rule is the last consideration in the process of opening the bidding. There are four prior primary considerations in making the opening bid. Each of those statements in italics references additional rules for deciding whether those statements are true or false.

Some of the things that can be tested are:
which conventions you and your partner are using
what each player bid
the length of each of your suits
the length the partnership has in a suit
the length another player implied having in a suit
the value of a counter, such as point count
